This review is for the 2019 version not the 2018 version.I own at least 30 DK Eyewitness travel guides. They are the only guides that I have used for the past 20 years. This 2019 version looks like it is a "knock-off" product from some third world publisher. The pages are printed on cheap paper and the entire book is of very poor quality. It reminds me of a book that someone threw together with xerox copies of another book. I am returning it immediately. I would give it zero stars if i could.The 2018 version meets the quality standard that I am used to.

This is a great, full color travel guide. As other reviews detail, it shows in detail the highlights of every area in Prague. If there is a major exhibit (like St. Vitus' Cathedral) it will have a full spread showing the cathedral and pointing out with an illustration what is there. That is what makes this book great to have. We carried it through the castle complex and it was helpful. I usually use it to review the night before we head to an area for an overview. I agree with another reviewer that this is a little to large to comfortable carry around with you everywhere. I would still get this, but also pick up the Lonely Planet POCKET Prague published in June of 2012. That little gem went everywhere with us and has a great map of each section of the city tagged with highlights and recommended restaurants. It is full color but so small that it can't have pictures of everything like this one does. I would comment that I read both Fodors and Frommers before my trip (library) and preferred both the DK travel guide and the Pocket Prague. They were ok for trip planning and what to expect. I also picked up Rick Steves 2012 edition for background, read it at the hotel and used ideas from it. No color and not what I needed to explain what I was seeing like DK's!

This is hands down the best guide book I've found to date. I'd purchased a few others that were either extremely small (for weight reasons?) and therefore hard to read, or else were satisfactory. When I opened the cover to this book, I was greeted with a colored map of the four "towns" that make up Prague. There are multiple colored illustrations and photos, and great side bars on interesting sites throughout the city. This book is very detailed, and very much worth the cost (which was fairly low since I bought a used copy). I highly recommend this book to anyone planning a trip to Prague. I will seek out other guide books by DK Eyewitness - this is now my standard for excellence in guidebooks.

As a knowledgable person of Prague, I know it still helps to have a large city map to view where buses & trams are going; cell phone maps can't provide the bigger picture or location of multiple areas of interest on a single view. Has sufficient detail of areas or items of interest w background and how to get to these places.

I've used the Eyewitness books for our last 2 trips to Europe and I absolutely love them! I've decided to choose the version (full or Top 10) depending on the amount of time we'll be visiting a city. For any trips that are 3 days or less, you can definitley get away with the Top 10 book - it boils everything down to the best choices/most popular things to do, and is much smaller and very easy to carry around with you. For our trip to Prague, I ended up buying both versions...we were in Prague for a week (half on business), but I found that after our first couple days, I was referring to the full guide more often to find places to visit and such. I would totally recommend the Eyewitness books!

DK Eyewitness covered a lot for this city. The only thing that I did not like was the amount of information on food. DK Eyewitness always disappoints me in this area. Prague is also know for it's beer and this book barely touched on that or the many places to go to drink. This city also has a lot of cheaper places to eat that was not mentioned. This publisher should also add in things that are not so touristy. This book was filled with mostly touristy places to see or things to do. If I could I would give this book 3.5 stars. I decided to go with 4 because this book did it's job.

Reading any guide from this publisher before to travel will make every site you visit feel like meeting an old friend.Rereading it on your return will prompt more memories than any photo you might chance to take or postcard you dropped a euro on.Buy it second hand if money is an issue.Give it to a good friend who takes a journey to your guide's locale-this makes a very thoughtful gift--but only if you really like your friend and are feeling especially generous.

Very helpful. Covers the areas of most tourists questions. Great tour book. Includes a pull out map. Provides history, which helped in advance of visiting the city, as well as traveler tips, amongst other info and recommendations.

I would highly recommend this book to both students and adults. The retelling of the DARPA Grand Challenges seriously made me regret not choosing a career in engineering. And the explanation of how the autonomous vehicle has evolved over time was gripping, not only because of the breadth of topics covered (e.g., engineering, mathematics, public policy, business, etc.), but also because of all the known and unknown people you learn about. An exciting and fascinating tale of the past, present and future of autonomous vehicles.

Burns is a former GM exec who for years engaged in the thankless task of reforming the company from with, to steer it toward a greener future. He scored some successes by securing GM sponsorship of prestigious teams in autonomous driving competitions in the early 2000’s, but ultimately inertia of the old guard combined with economic downturns and bankruptcy convinced him that he could effect more change by being outside of GM than staying within.This is a riveting insider tale of the first decades in the quest for developing and marketing autonomous vehicles. Featuring enough technical information to give geeks something to enjoy while not burying the reader with arcane engineering detail, this work strikes the perfect mix. The chapters on the first DARPA autonomous vehicle challenges are particularly compelling and are told in a vivid, page-turning manner.The author retells the many personal conflicts that plagued the business in the later years, some of which impacted him, but by and large he manages to put his personal biases aside and tell the story in an informative and reasonable manner. However, despite his intentions, the reader can still detect an anti-Uber tilt, although he is open about his allegiances and interests. Another improvement could have been to address some of the autonomous vehicle activity outside of North America. While North America in general and the Detroit-Silicon Valley rivalry (which eventually, as he points out, became a collaboration) in particular were a clear driving force in the development of the autonomous car, there could have been a few more comments on what was happening outside the continent. Ethical issues, too, could have benefited from a little more coverage.But these are quibbles. Written in a very readable style by a man with deep knowledge of the car business, this is an excellent introduction to the field and a must-read for all who want to know how we got here and where we’re going. It will make you an optimist.

I can’t get this subject matter of this book out of my mind.Lawrence Burns starts with a concise, researched summary of the current situation with all of us guzzling fuel to drive a heavy, larger than needed car from one parking spot to another on our occasional trips in our mostly idle personal autos.I’m in Oakland CA and until reading this book saw no hope for any future solution to Bay area traffic. But Burns lays out the dramatic reduction in “cars” needed if we move from personally owned autos to fleets of driverless cars readily responding to our calls for rides to whatever destinations we have.Any politician or other public official facing traffic issues should, after reading this book, want their jurisdiction at the head of the line for those city managers thoughtful enough to lead their municipalities in participation in testing these vehicles.Yes, very sadly there will be tragedies ahead with these vehicles – we’ve already seen some and they too are well documented in this book. But these vehicles have the potential and the promise of dramatic future reduction in accidents. Burns strongly makes that case.I had a first-hand seat to the advent of the digital camera era and as a result to Kodak losing its enormous businesses in film, in paper, in chemicals, and in picture developing/printing. The automobile and energy production and maintenance businesses face the same fate at the same pace that Kodak faced. If you’re in any business dependent on automobiles – from manufacturing, to parts production, to sales, to servicing, to gasoline production/sales, to parking, to insurance – this book will lead you through rethinking the future of your businesses. Don’t believe it? Don’t think it will happen in the “near” future? This Kindle edition English translation version of 'The Papyrus of Ani' by E.A. Wallis Budge does not include the mythological account in Egyptian hieroglyphs as the printed version of the same author does, which I also own. I would like to see in the future a Kindle edition fo the 'Papyrus of Ani' (Book of the Dead) that includes the Egyptian hieroglyphs and their English translation, transcription and transliteration as related by E.A. Wallis Budge. It is however a good travel companion for reading on my Kindle application of my laptop because I previously had expensive books that were too bulky or suffered damage and loss.

I like this book because I am seriously into Egyptian theories. I couldn't give it a five star though because it is difficult reading and I believe only for the very serious reader. Sara Pitzer makes the growing of grain comprehensible and easy for those who have never tried it. There is good information on types of grain, the forms it is sold in, and detailed instructions for culture, including spacing of seed and rows (this is hard to find info). Most info on the web is aimed at farmers with tractors and seeders, and for cultivating acre sized plots. This book will be helpful to those with smaller plots. There are many recipes in the book, something I could have done without, but others may find useful. There is also excellent info on how to purchase the correct grain mill to grind fresh flour. I would say this book is well worth the purchase price and fun to read.

Great little book. This is not an academic treatise on the various and scientific niceties of growing grain. This is written to and for anyone without agricultural expertise. Instructions on growing and processing grains are concise and complete. The book also has some nice recipes. The only thing I'd like to have seen included is a short glossary for some of the terminology (lodging, e.g.), but those are easy enough to look up.

I found it kind of vague as to yields for grain types ( no "plant …square feet to feed …people") but appreciated the advice to try a small first planting because you might find the work involved to be too much. Not a farmers book but a home gardeners book. Recipes given for each grain too.At the back there's a resource list for grain, tools, internet information, even a few books.

This book is exactly what I wanted: a quick guide to growing grains at home. She is an excellent writer and I like how she is realistic about the effort and difficulty required to process some of the crops. You can tell that she has done all of this many times and has observed other people doing it, and she knows where the problems will arise, especially in the discouragement department. The list of seed sources in the back is very useful. When I got this book I opened it up and read it through and had trouble putting it down. Thanks, Ms. Pitzer.

This was a great resource on growing grains. Based on the information here, I decided to try to grow oats and barley in my wet and cool northern climate. The hull-less varieties I selected grew well enough, but the barley soon succumbed to aphids that loved the thick, juicy stems. The oats with their thin stems didn't attract any aphids, but the seed heads didn't open properly due to mold forming on the husks. It was a tedious job to squeeze the seeds out of the seed husks. The book is a great introduction to growing grains and also gives recipes for each type of grain.

Lots of info, very informative. After reading this book I feel ready to go out and prepare the field and plant. This book clearly lays out the positives and negatives of growing each grain and makes suggestions on where to buy the best seed, how to prepare soil, how to maintain until harvest, how to harvest, and how to prepare for storage. Even gives recipes to help you use your grain. And the illustrations of the plants and grains up close are very helpful.

Truly covers all that you need to know to start growing small plots of grain at home.In not much room, you can provide a significant portion of your food grains each year!Excellent resources list toward the back, for buying all those little things that USED to be common in every toolshed, but you don't see around any more. Seed distributors, tools, scythes, lists for everything.I highly recommend this book!

It's the perfect book for a beginner like myself. Simple and easy to comprehend. Great resource for someone who wants to grow a small patch of grain in their backyard. Definitely not for anyone who may be well seasoned in growing grain.

For those who like their history with a dash of drama, one could hardly ask for better than this true first-person tale of Samuel White Baker, a British peer who put aside the comforts of his estate back home and dragged his faithful wife up the Nile River to discover (or rather confirm) its true source. No heart-stopping event is omitted from this breathtaking travelogue, from swarming malarial mosquitos to ravenous crocodiles to charging rhinos to cannibalistic native tribesmen waging internecine warfare with stone-age weaponry. One can scarcely believe that the couple managed to survive over four years of real-life hell in equatorial Africa. You won't be able to put it down.

Most of the book was about the conditions of travel during the exploration of the Nile river. It was interesting and highly informative. If it had been written as a novel, and the reader did not know the outcome, it would have been a "cliffhanger" to the last page. As it was nonfiction, written in the first person, it became tedious and hard to finish. But, I preserved.

I would have loved to accompany Baker on this and all of his other trips through Africa.his books take me places where I can't go. I wish he had wrote several more.

While often interesting, it was often repetitive (same problem, e.g., his malaria, or the rain, or the deceitfulness of the natives he deals with). He gives descriptive and interesting accounts of hunting and some of the scenery and difficulties he encounters and these make for interesting reading for those interested in some of the earliest accounts of Central Africa, but much of what he says about his search for the river's source is very hard to follow because there are no maps and places he speaks about in 1863 no longer exist on modern maps. This makes it almost impossible to appreciate his travels and in some way understand some of his decisions.

The evils of the slave trade largely carried on by Africans themselves long after Europeans had turned away from their previous regrettable involvement is chronicled as is the misuse of absolute power by chiefs such as. Kamrasi. Baker's compulsion to indulge in the 'sport' of shooting innocent animals on sight is repugnant to the modern reader but his courage and endurance are greatly to be admired. Many valuable observations on the customs and general culture of Africans in the mid 19th century are given. As in the cases of Burton, Speke and Grant the success of the expedition depended on the strength and tenacity of the accompanying Africans.

Pro JSF and Ajax focuses on one important facet of JSF -- component development -- and does it well.It starts with a quick overview of the major architectural elements of JSF, and then quickly moves to building custom components in Chapter 2. The first component built is a simple date entry component; a second, more sophisticated example is a 'deck' implementation (a deck is a collapsing navigational/browsing UI element).The authors then provide a succinct overview of client side rich internet technologies -- Ajax, XUL (supported by Firefox) and HTC (the DHTML behavior language that is supported by Internet Explorer). They then deploy these technologies to build rich client versions of the date and deck components.The book does a good job of bridging the gap between JSF 1.1 and 1.2 implementations; the code in the book targets 1.1, but discusses how implementation would differ in 1.2.For someone starting out developing in JSF, I'd recommend this book in combination with the strong survey of JSF in JavaServer Faces by Hans Bergsten.

As such, I could imagine it not being too pleasant a surprise to some readers that the authors start by recommending other, more basic JSF books because the content will dive right into the deep end. It would be quite alright--it is a "Pro" book, after all--except that the graphic on the back cover implies that no prior JSF knowledge is required. Probably not an issue with most readers, but still worth mentioning, I think.Regarding the book's content, there's a quite robust structure in place where the authors begin by developing a couple of JSF components (a "deck" container and a date field) through chapters 2 and 3, after giving a run-through overview of JSF in chapter 1. Even though the examples are growing in somewhat large leaps, it is helpful to see the components develop rather than getting them "off the shelf"--otherwise chapters 6 and 7 where the authors show us how to Ajaxify the two JSF components (deck and date field) would've likely been too much information in too short a timeframe.The examples are thorough and come with loads of readable code listings. In addition, many complex topics were further clarified with a good use of graphics.The book's scope is a bit too scattered, I think. The authors have dedicated chapter 5 for a useful open source add-on called Weblets, which I consider a good decision. I do not, however, agree with the decision to allocate over a hundred pages for Mozilla XUL and Microsoft HTC. XUL, for example, is a nice technology and serves as a good example of an "alternative" render kit for the de facto HTML one. Still, I would've preferred seeing more complex Ajax techniques such as file uploads demonstrated with JSF instead of just talking about them.To summarize, I consider the strengths of this book being the thorough examples developed through the chapters and the effective use of graphics to illustrate architectures, execution sequences, and class diagrams. On the negative side, the text was rather heavy and thus difficult to keep up with. Furthermore, some of the more "exotic" content should've been traded in for additional Ajax material, in my opinion. All in all, there's a bunch of information packed into these covers that you're not likely to find elsewhere in such a compact format.

Using the examples provided, you start to see how a JSF application mixed with something like Ajax allows you to start building internet applications that behave more like desktop client apps... no round-trips to the server... no constant screen refreshes to get new content... Pretty cool stuff. I'd also recommend that you be pretty conversant with the rich internet technology already. Like with JSF, there's an assumption that you already understand the basics, so don't think that your first exposure to Ajax could be with this book. You'll be in pain if you try that route...If you've had the exposure and you're now looking for some really cool project on which to apply your JSF skills, this could easily be the book that helps you make that transition from "Hello World" to "ooooohhh..."
